Who we are

Welcome to Camden Musical Society – your space for unforgettable musical theatre experiences in the heart of Camden.

Founded in September 2019, we're a passionate community of performers, creatives, and theatre enthusiasts nestled in the heart of Camden, NSW. At CMS, we believe in the power of the performing arts to unite, inspire, and uplift. Whether you're a seasoned performer, a backstage supporter, or simply someone who loves to immerse themselves in the magic of live theatre, there's a place for you here.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound mission: to make professional-quality musical theatre accessible, affordable, and inclusive for everyone in our community. From our youngest aspiring stars to our seasoned veterans, we welcome individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels to join us in celebrating the joy of storytelling through song and dance.

At CMS, it's not just about putting on spectacular shows – it's about fostering a sense of belonging, creativity, and camaraderie that resonates long after the final curtain call. So, come as you are and let's create something truly special together!

Our Committee

Kerrie jiear

Kerrie is a lead teacher in Music whose studies include the successful completion of a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music Technology. During work hours Kerrie spends her time co-ordinating and conducting primary and secondary school band programs. Kerrie has been involved in musical theatre for well over thirty years, both within the community and in the school environment as both musical director and production manager. As president, Kerrie is committed to ‘growing the future of the society’ by leading a group that is dedicated to developing the skills and talents of current and future generations. She is honoured to be leading such a dynamic, enthusiastic group of people, who are devoted to promoting and fostering the longevity of the performing arts through musical theatre.

Joy has met lifelong friends in theatres around Sydney during her years in community theatre and she has closely supported the emergence of Camden Musical Society as an inaugural committee member since its inception in 2019.
Performance skills, stage team work and creating magic for theatre goers is her aim, singing, dancing and acting, each of which Joy has explored in its own right. Joy is both a performer and choreographer and dabbled with directing as an assistant director when needed. Some favourite moments include the role of Myra in Deathtrap, singing Flight Duet at Opera in the Barn, acrobatics captain in Barnum, featured dancer and support roles in many musicals, featured skater, and adapting to roles ranging in age from 16 to 86. In her other professional life she has managed specialised health services and state-wide professional associations, worked nationally, and is currently providing services to children as an occupational therapist. Joy enjoys time with family and would like to one day master the art of sheep mustering with her kelpie.

Emily has been involved in musical theatre from a young age and is most often seen on stage singing her heart out. Over the last few years, she has also enjoyed taking up opportunities to step behind the scenes with Camden Musical Society, having been involved in Production Management teams as well as joining the Committee. Emily is a Speech Pathologist and, when she's not at work or involved in a CMS production, she likes to spend her time snorkelling, scuba diving, or painting.

sasja penman

Sasja has always had a passion for the performing arts in dance. Ballet holds a special place in her heart, having danced full-time in her younger years. Her interest in musical theatre came much later in life, supporting her own daughter in pursing her love for all things ‘on stage’.
Sasja is a qualified audiologist and centre manager by day, but happily finds the time to be a part of Camden Musical Society and its devotion to the community. With her sarcasm and wicked sense of humour, she has enjoyed contributing with her choreography and performing alongside such talented people across many of the productions to date. All while keeping the books in check!

Richard returns to the stage after a long sabbatical of some 30 years away from acting. After high school Richard completed a Computer Science degree while also attending acting classes at university along with singing classes and playing in a band with no name. Richard returned to the theatre at the age of 50 cast in feature ensemble roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Camden Musical Society 2023 along side his 12 year old daughter Imogen who had a lead role as Jemima and also in Les Misérables at the Campbelltown Theatre Group in 2023 along side his son Xavier who was cast in the lead role as Gavroche.
Richard is a solicitor in Camden by day and is part of the committee at the Camden Musical Society 2024 to give something back to the community.

Helen retired from full time work in 2019 and was looking for something new and exciting to do. When she stumbled upon the newly formed Camden Musical Society, she offered her support. Over the last 5 years, Helen has embraced learning the role of Front of House Manager and Production Manager for Camden Musical Society's productions. Helen has also been integral in the policy and procedure development with the society. Helen has thoroughly enjoyed learning her new roles, meeting cast and working alongside committee members.

sophie cornett

Sophie has been involved in Camden Musical Society's since their first production, Seussical, in 2020. Since then she has been a cast member, choreographer, assistant director and is now proud to be co-directing CMS' latest production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Sophie is a research scientist and university academic by day, and has thoroughly enjoyed being able to apply her knowledge of cell biology to helping stage productions and develop policies and procedures for CMS, usually in the form of some very pretty spreadsheets.

Craig has been involved in music theatre since the age of 11 and has performed on stage in over 35 productions and been involved behind the scenes in 30 more shows across the Sydney and Illawarra region.
Over the years, he has been involved in stage design, sound and lighting, directing, musical directing and stage managing as well as performing.
Craig has taught primary and high school music, drama and art for over 30 years and is currently teaching in schools across Western Sydney Primary. He was also the owner and director of Creative Diversions, a singing performance academy in Camden area and has been a member of local music groups.
Some highlights of Craig’s performance career have been performing in the Opening Ceremony for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, recording with the late Rob Guest for a Christmas CD, performing Handel’s Messiah in St Mary’s Cathedral and solo performances in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore as part of a South-East Asia tour with the Sydney Conservatorium Chorale.

Grayce's love for musical theatre began in her early years, with a passion for singing, dancing, and acting that has continued to thrive. After a brief break from the stage, she eagerly returned to the spotlight by joining Camden Musical Society in 2021. Since then, Grayce has delighted in performing with the CMS Event Performance Group at various holiday events. During the day, Grayce works as a primary school teacher. Eager to explore new avenues in her creative journey, she's excited to step off the stage and onto the CMS committee. Grayce also looks forward to contributing to the launch of the CMS newsletter, a brand-new endeavour for CMS.

bree-anna linsley

Hi, I am Bree-Anna. My decision to join the Camden Musical Society is grounded in a multitude of reasons. A paramount motivation is my deep-seated passion for delivering distinguished theatrical experiences to the community of Camden. Having dedicated years to the study of speech and drama under the auspices of the AMEB since the age of three, my aspiration now lies in nurturing aspiring performers in the art of acting within the realm of musical theater. My occupation is a primary school teacher. Beyond my theatrical pursuits, I also find enjoyment in equestrian activities and participation in scouting endeavors.

Inge has always been a lover of musical theatre in all shapes and forms, and grew up singing, dancing, and performing. She joined Camden Musical Society in 2023 and immediately jumped into getting involved behind the scenes. Inge is a former secondary school teacher turned marketing manager, and since joining CMS has taken over the marketing and communications function. Inge loves spending time with her husband and two girls - when not on stage or helping out with productions, she can usually be found camping, travelling, or reading a good book.
